Cleaning Kay’s Room: Two-bag method
I finally figured out a quick and easy way to clean Kay’s room. It is as easy as having two bags on hand.
Bag #1 is for toys that I don’t mind seeing on her floor again. They are her bigger plastic toys or her nicer smaller toys. They might go in separate containers but at this point my main objective is getting them off the floor.. We’ll sort them at a later time.
Bag #2 is for trash and all the rest of the stuff that I don’t ever want to see on her floor again. This includes half-sticky stickers, paper “toys”, broken crayons when she has a million crayons already, happy meal toys that she played with barely once…
So it is obvious where Bag #2 will end up, but the trick is that Bag #1 goes into “time out” for some period of time.. Maybe seven days.. after which we will sit down and sort through that bag together and then put those things away in their respective containers. Kayleigh will learn not only how to put her toys away in their proper containers but that toys left on the floor will go to time out (or may not even make it to time out). If I keep her a part of the entire process, hopefully it will actually “stick” and she’ll begin to put her own toys away without my intervention.
